Carol Long will be presenting the formation of ceramic vessels and sculptures with undulating surfaces, handles that wind out into negative space, and surface decoration. We will discuss design, construction practices, surface decoration, glaze color selection, glaze application, and electric firing. Beginning to advanced skill levels are welcome.
Day 1 - Botanical slab press mold, foraging, pressing
We will forage the property in search of flowers and plants to make a press mold.
Day 2 - Throwing, altering, pulling handles
We will use simple thrown vessels as a starting point for manipulation.
Day 3 - Slab building pieces, altering, pulling handles
We will focus and build a two-sided form.
Day 4 - Slip trailing, glazing a small tile
Adamah will provide:
50lbs of Bclay. Porcelain and additional stoneware will be available for purchase.
Bisque firing during workshop
Basic throwing and hand-building tools
Participants should bring:
Tools that you are comfortable with, a couple of stainless steel potters ribs as well
Boxes and wrapping for any pieces made during the workshop
Slip trailing bottles (we have a few extra if participants do not have one)
